Course Introduction:
Formation Evaluation (FE) plays a crucial role in subsurface reservoir characterization, helping geologists, petrophysicists, and engineers make informed decisions in exploration and production. However, the accuracy and reliability of well log data depend heavily on rigorous quality control (QC) processes. This training program focuses on the theoretical aspects of Log Quality Control (QC) in Formation Evaluation, covering techniques for identifying errors, understanding tool limitations, and applying best practices to ensure high-quality data for reservoir analysis.
Over five days, participants will explore the principles of well logging, common sources of logging errors, environmental effects, and data correction techniques. The course will also introduce industry standards for log QC, including verification methods for resistivity, porosity, density, and sonic logs. By the end of the training, attendees will have the knowledge required to detect data inconsistencies, apply correction techniques, and improve the integrity of formation evaluation interpretations.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
-
Understand the importance of log quality control in formation evaluation.
-
Learn key quality control techniques for various open hole logging tools.
-
Identify common log errors caused by tool malfunctions and environmental factors.
-
Explore methods to correct and validate well log data.
